Michelle Yeoh, the Oscar-winning actress, recently shared her bitter experience regarding her struggle to have a child. In a podcast with Gwyneth Paltrow, she revealed the challenges she faced during her marriage to businessman Dickson Pooh. The marriage, which lasted three years, ended in 1991, largely due to her inability to have children. Read the full story below!
In the interview, Michelle revealed that although she really wanted to be a mother, she was diagnosed as unable to conceive. "I love children. (Having children) is one of the greatest joys in a person's life, but what can I do? It's not that I didn't want to try; we did everything, but unfortunately, physically, I cannot (get pregnant)," concluded Michelle Yeoh.
"At that moment, (separation) was my choice because I realized my ex (husband) wanted a big family, not just one or two children. He had worked hard to build a business empire and he needed his children to inherit it," explained Michella Yeoh.
"So I thought, 'Oh my God (what if) in 10 years we still can't have children, what will we do? It might be too late by then," she continued.
After the separation, Michelle maintained a good relationship with her ex-husband and his family. She even became a godmother to her friends' children and feels grateful for that role.
"Now I am grateful because all my friends trust me with their children and I already have six godchildren," concluded the 62-year-old actress. Â
Although the dream of having a biological child did not come true, Michelle found happiness in her new role as a godmother and as an aunt to her nieces and nephews. She reflects on her gratitude for the relationships she has built with the children around her.
