Naughty Boy, John Lennon Was Punished by His Teacher at School Up to Three Times a Day

Every teenager surely has their own story of mischief. This includes the former vocalist of The Beatles, John Lennon. As a teenager, Lennon was proven to be very naughty. He could be punished by his school teacher up to three times in a day.

A list of Lennon’s mischief during his teenage years was recorded in a document and was auctioned online on a website in 2013. As a reminder, Lennon was shot at the age of 40 outside his apartment in New York on December 8, 1980, by Mark Chapman.

Teachers specifically for boys at Quarry Bank High School, Liverpool, wrote that Lennon, who was 15 years old at the time, was punished for fighting in class and "sabotage". The document revealed that at least twice, Lennon received three punishments in one day.

The punishment given by the teachers was due to Lennon often "disturbing", "pushing", and "not paying attention". The documents record Lennon’s mischief while he was in class 3 B between May 19 - June 23, 1955, and class 4C from November 25, 1955, to February 13, 1956.

At that time, Lennon met Paul McCartney in 1957 and formed The Beatles. Their first hit, Love Me Do, skyrocketed in 1962.

Two documents dated 1955 were saved by a teacher who was ordered to burn all the books in the school warehouse in the late 1970s. He saw Lennon’s name on several pages and tore them out as a keepsake.

The sheets have been verified for authenticity by Lennon’s school friend, Pete Shotton, who wrote a book about John Lennon, In My Life.

Peter Beech, Lennon’s science teacher, at the time said, "That paper is typical of John Lennon; he was a very naughty child." Nevertheless, Lennon was still considered to know his limits.

However, John’s chemistry teacher, Eric Oldman, said that John could actually go further. "In class, if you can silence John, generally you can calm the whole class," said Eric Oldman.
