Carrie Underwood won the singing competition American Idol in its fourth season in 2005. Now, she will return to the show next year, but this time as a judge alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

Carrie Underwood will replace Katy Perry, who has chosen to step down from her judging position after season 22 ends in May 2024. Katy Perry decided to focus on the release of her latest album titled 143, which is scheduled to come out in September 2024, as well as a promotional tour to support the album.

With Carrie Underwood's return, American Idol will welcome back one of its biggest stars, who has previously left a strong mark on the competition.
