The Tortured Poets Department launched with 2.61 million equivalent album units earned in the US in the week ending April 25, with traditional album sales (digital download purchases, CDs, vinyl LPs, and cassettes) comprising 1.914 million of that sum. Of those sales figures, vinyl sales represent an impressive 859,000. The deluxe edition of the album's 31-song set generated 891.34 million on-demand official streams.

With sales of 1.914 million copies, The Tortured Poets Department instantly becomes the best-selling album of 2024 to date. The second best-selling album, based on weekly sales since January to date, is Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter, with a total of 228,000 copies sold.
