This digital character was officially introduced at the Zurich Summit 2025, part of the Zurich Film Festival, by the British studio, Particle6, through their AI division named Xicoia.
According to a report by Vanity Fair, Tilly is not just a 3D face or an animated character, but is created to resemble a real artist. She is equipped with a background, voice, and body gestures similar to a real human.
In fact, she has been introduced in a project titled AI Commissioner, a comedy sketch entirely produced using artificial intelligence technology.

Not stopping there, Tilly also has an official Instagram account showcasing clips of her acting. The videos display expressions, facial gestures, and voice intonations that are so realistic that many people find it hard to distinguish whether she is truly human or not. However, Tilly's emergence has faced strong protests from actors and actresses in Hollywood. The prominent actors' union, SAG-AFTRA, has openly condemned the presence of Tilly Norwood.

In response to the wave of criticism, the creators finally provided an official clarification. Eline Van der Velden, founder of Particle6 and creator of Tilly, emphasized that the main purpose of this AI character is not to replace human actors.
According to her, Tilly is better described as a work of art or a new medium that can facilitate workflows in the film industry, similar to the use of CGI or animation.

"She (Tilly) is a work of art, not a human. This AI is just a tool, just like paint, CGI, or puppets. It is not meant to replace actors, but to add creative options," explained Van der Velden in an interview with The Independent.
He also added that Tilly's presence was designed gradually, starting from social media to eventually appearing on the stage of the international film industry. Soon, Tilly is even planned to be represented by an official agency.
