It became so popular that it was eventually turned into a book. And not only that, several filmmakers and production houses vied for the rights to adapt KKN in Penari Village into a film. Eventually, MD Pictures won the rights.

2. The Author's Name and Village Remain a Mystery

Interestingly, the identity of the author, Simpleman, remains a mystery to this day. No one knows their true identity. It seems that Simpleman was not tempted by the allure of fame and chose to keep their identity a secret.

In addition to the mysterious author, all the names of the village and location mentioned in the story are kept secret by Simpleman. They only wrote that the city where the incident took place had the initial B, while the student who became the victim in the story came from the city of S.

3. Screening Postponed for 2 Years

The movie KKN DI DESA PENARI, produced by MD Pictures, was actually completed in 2019 and scheduled to be released in 2020. Unfortunately, the pandemic struck and cinemas were not allowed to operate, so the movie had to be postponed for an indefinite period of time.

Now, at the beginning of 2022, MD Pictures announced that KKN DI DESA PENARI will be released in theaters in February. However, once again, impatient viewers will have to wait as the film has been postponed again until April 30, 2022, due to the PPKM regulations imposed by the government. Hopefully, there will be no more delays after this.

4. Production Process Costs Over Rp 15 Billion

In a conversation with KapanLagi.com, Manoj Punjabi, the producer of the film KKN DI DESA PENARI, explained that the filming process faced many obstacles. As a result, production costs skyrocketed to tens of billions of rupiah.

"There were many difficulties. We shot in November and December when it was raining heavily, and the set in the forest even collapsed. We faced many challenges. The budget increased, but thankfully, everything was completed smoothly and successfully," said Manoj to KapanLagi.com.

"The cost was above Rp 15 billion. That's without promotion. It's crazy," he added briefly.

5. Released in 2 Different Versions

Interestingly, KKN DI DESA PENARI will be released in 2 different versions, namely UNCUT and Non-UNCUT. Each has its own target audience age, with the UNCUT version only intended for viewers aged 18 and above.
