6 Portraits of the 'THIS LIFE HAS TOO MUCH OF YOU' Snippet Ready for Release, a Film Adaptation of Pidi Baiq's Quotes Highlighting a Twisted Love Story

After the success of GOD ALLOW ME TO SIN, MVP Pictures presents a drama film titled THIS LIFE HAS TOO MUCH OF YOU (HITBK), which will be released in theaters starting November 21, 2024. Uniquely, this film is an adaptation of a collection of popular quotes by Pidi Baiq, offering a different touch in narrating a profound love story.

Directed by Kuntz Agus and produced by Raam Punjabi, HITBK tells the story of Sadali, who is studying in Yogyakarta. However, his life changes when he is bound by an arranged marriage to Arnaza, the daughter of his father's friend.

In the midst of confusion, Sadali meets Mera, an art gallery owner who is struggling through a divorce, and they become involved in a complicated relationship that brings them together through art and love. Kuntz Agus was drawn to work on HITBK because of its deep story set in Yogyakarta in 1998.

“This story has depth, especially since it is set in Jogja in 1998. That moment serves as a very strong backdrop for the search for identity and love between Sadali, Mera, and Arnaza. There is a love story that challenges and defies the times there,” he said. Here are the details.

This film also presents social-political dynamics intertwined with the personal lives of its characters, which according to Kuntz, becomes a unique attraction. “Besides the unusual elements of love, the world of visual arts and social upheaval in that era provides a rich layer of story to be brought to the big screen,” he added.

As a screenwriter, Titien Wattimena expresses the significant challenge in adapting HITBK, which comes from a collection of quotes, not a complete novel. “The challenge is to find the common thread from the entire collection of quotes to create a story that is focused, sharp, and whole,” explained Titien.

However, with the story foundation from Pidi Baiq, he and the team managed to develop an engaging narrative. The casting of main actors such as Adinia Wirasti, Ajil Ditto, and Hanggini became one of the important aspects of this film.

According to Kuntz Agus, each actor was chosen for their ability to bring depth to their characters. “Adinia is suitable as Mera with her complex emotions, Ajil is ideal to portray the flamboyant yet troubled Sadali, and Hanggini brings balance as Arnaza who offers a different perspective,” he explained.

Ajil Ditto, who plays Sadali, feels very enthusiastic about this project, especially since it is set in his hometown. “From the moment I read the synopsis, I was really excited because this film relates to my hometown and the character of Sadali as a painter. So, without a second thought, I jumped right in!” he said.

Adinia Wirasti also shared her experience in delving into the complex character of Mera. “Bringing Mera to life is quite complex, especially due to the stigma attached to women who are involved with younger men. However, Mera becomes a powerful figure with a great passion for art, amidst her emotional limitations,” Adinia said. Stay updated with the latest news related to films only on KapanLagi.
