Accused of Buying Characters, the Producer of 'MERAH PUTIH ONE FOR ALL' Explains His Creative Process

Kapanlagi.com - One of the most serious accusations against the film MERAH PUTIH ONE FOR ALL is regarding the use of characters that are allegedly purchased from a marketplace and not original works.

In response to this, the executive producer of the film MERAH PUTIH ONE FOR ALL, Endiarto, provided an in-depth explanation of the character creation process in his film. He strongly denied the accusation that the characters were bought in ready-made form.

According to Endiarto, the creative process begins with the formation of concepts and characterizations of the eight main characters from scratch. The screenwriting team has designed the background and traits of each character in detail before visualizing them.

"So if it’s said that the characters were bought, we determined those characters already. The character of Nara is like this, we dissect that," explained Endiarto when met in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (12/8/2025).

After the character concepts are mature, the animation team then begins to work on bringing them into digital visual form. This is where the use of templates or digital assets plays a role. Endiarto analogizes it to using a design application, where users purchase access to various elements to be assembled into a new work.

"Well, after those characters are formed, we visualize them digitally, we sketch them using digital tools. After that, there is a comparison, right?" To see the comparison, the free one is only available on Google. But if we want to see a character that is truly close, then we need to have the paid version," he explained.

1. Purchase of Template License, Not Entire Characters

He emphasized that the purchase made was for a package of assets or a template license, not for buying entire characters. This is a common practice in the world of digital animation for production efficiency. According to him, it is impossible to create animation from scratch without the help of existing software and assets.

"We can't create the applications ourselves. Everything we use for editing, we also buy. Like CapCut, Filmora, we have to purchase. Well, applications and templates like those are also available everywhere. Today is the digital age," he said.

2. Creative Processing Results

Endiarto concluded that the characters in his film are the result of his team's creative processing, utilizing technology and assets that are legally available. For him, the accusation of buying ready-made characters is a misunderstanding.

"So if it’s said that the characters were bought, our characters were already shaped from the beginning, from the eight children. We have shaped them because those are the main characters of the eight children," he concluded.
