'ADIT SOPO JARWO: THE MOVIE' Takes a Trip to the Animated Version of 10 Cities in Indonesia

Starting from the animated series that aired since 2014, MD Animation and MD Pictures present it in a feature film medium that can be enjoyed through streaming services. In the hands of Eki NF and Hanung Bramantyo, ADIT SOPO JARWO THE MOVIE will invite viewers to the early introduction period of the three main characters, namely Adit, Sopo, and Jarwo.

The idea of making the feature film ADIT SOPO JARWO emerged in 2015. However, it was not until 2018 that the production process could begin. Starting from creating storyboards, making animations, recording voices, to the rendering process.
What's interesting is that Hanung Bramantyo's involvement in this project happened unexpectedly.

"Everything happened quickly and unexpectedly. When I visited the MD office, I was called by Mr. Manoj, who was in Mr. Eki's room at the time. From there, a conversation took place and I was asked to become the film's director along with Mr. Eki," he said. Hanung mentioned that he was more focused on the storytelling aspect. He fully trusted Eki for the animation technique.

"When Mr. Hanung agreed to join, I was very happy. Mr. Hanung is more experienced, so ADIT SOPO JARWO becomes more perfect," Eki added.

1. The Beginning of Adit, Sopo, and Jarwo's Meeting

Adit and his parents went to Yogyakarta by train. During the journey, Adit decided to buy some snacks when the train stopped at Cirebon Station. Unexpectedly, when Adit hurried back, the train had already departed, leaving Adit alone at the station.

Jarwo, feeling sorry for seeing a little child abandoned alone at a station, approached the child. This was the beginning of Adit's acquaintance with Jarwo, a kind stranger who helped him in his search to find his parents. Sopo, a train porter, also appeared and became suspicious of Jarwo's behavior. Worried, Sopo decided to accompany Adit and Jarwo on their journey.

Adit, who was still sad, began to feel more at ease and started telling them about the incident he had just experienced. Hearing his story, Sopo and Jarwo's hearts were moved even more to help and assist Adit in reuniting with his parents.

This unexpected meeting resulted in an adventure full of laughter and unique events. Through this meeting, the three of them became closer and got to know each other better. The differences in Adit, Sopo, and Jarwo's characters during this journey brought them together and proved the greatness of friendship and the value of helping each other.

2. Presenting 10 Indonesian Cities in Animated Version

ADIT SOPO JARWO THE MOVIE will take viewers on a journey with its three main characters from Cirebon to Yogyakarta. Beni Susanto, the screenplay writer, said that there will be 10 cities that serve as the backdrop for Adit, Sopo, and Jarwo's adventure.

The screenplay for Adit Sopo Jarwo The Movie also states that the animated film will showcase the depiction of major cities in Indonesia in animated form.

"So in the film, we flashback a few years ago, while in the current series they are already adults and the location is only in the village. In the film, we go outside the village, and there are a total of 10 places that serve as the backdrop. What will be seen is the true animated version of the cities that actually exist in Indonesia," said Beni.

Some of the cities that will be shown include Brebes, Yogyakarta, and Cirebon. The selection of cities is adjusted to the needs of the story.

3. Invite Young Viewers to Taste Exotic Locations

The diverse selection of settings presents its own challenges for Eki and Hanung. Especially since in the serial version, the story setting is only centered around Geger village. 

"If in the serial, the location is only in Geger village, and we are already familiar with the location, it's easy to shoot anything. But in the film, there are many locations from Brebes, and we researched Brebes which has Dieng and Serayu River, and we made it as real as possible," said Eki.

Eki also wants to give young viewers the opportunity to see exotic places in Java, Indonesia. "And we also want to show places that are rarely seen by kids nowadays, like there are salt fields in Brebes. Nowadays, kids rarely see salt fields," he concluded.
