Kapanlagi.com - The production house Drias Film Production is ready to launch their latest work, ANAK KUNTI, a horror film directed by Bambang Drias. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on February 20, 2025.
Bambang Drias revealed that this film is different from previous works because it uses advanced sound technology Dolby Atmos to provide a more immersive viewing experience.
“I will treat this film technically better. In terms of technology, this film uses Dolby Atmos, and I am very satisfied with the results,” said Drias at a press conference in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, Tuesday (2/11/2025).
The director explained that this technology was specifically chosen to maximize the voice of Kuntilanak, which is an important element in the story. "There are several considerations for using Dolby Atmos. Kuntilanak is already known to people, and when they hear Kuntilanak, they immediately remember its voice. It might be more exciting if we use Dolby Atmos, the screams can rotate in the studio," he explained.
This film features a lineup of renowned actors, such as Gisellma Firmansyah, Nita Gunawan, Selvi Kitty, Abun Sungkar, Iwa K, Wavi Zihan, Ruth Marini, and senior actor Jajang C. Noer. Set in the 1990s, this film brings to light the urban legend of Kuntilanak, but with an approach that touches on family themes.
The story centers around the character Sarah (Gisellma Firmansyah), an orphaned student who returns to Wonoenggal Village to uncover her family's past. Her arrival triggers the terror of Kuntilanak, believed to be the spirit of her biological mother who died during childbirth amidst village unrest.
In addition to offering suspense, ANAK KUNTI also conveys a message about a mother's everlasting love. "This film is not just horror, but it also touches on the family relationship aspect," added Bambang Drias.
Meanwhile, actress Nita Gunawan, who plays the character Kuntilanak, admitted to facing various challenges during the shooting process. One of the challenges was the makeup, which took a considerable amount of time, and the use of soft lenses that blurred her vision.
"The challenge was in the makeup, it had to be done for two hours. (Moreover) the full soft lenses cover my eyes, so my vision is blurred," Nita revealed.
Another challenge was the flying scene using a sling, which was done without the help of a stuntwoman. Nita feels that this experience is a personal achievement that makes her proud. "Without a stuntman, (being pulled by) the sling is real. So Wati's role from start to finish is still in the sling. This experience makes me proud," she explained.
Despite facing various obstacles, Nita feels grateful as the support from the crew and other cast members made the shooting process feel lighter. "We also bonded really well. We joked around and supported each other. So far, thank you to the crew," she said.
This film not only relies on a horror story but also combines advanced technology with emotional narratives, making it one of the films to look forward to. ANAK KUNTI is ready to take audiences into a different cinematic experience starting February 20, 2025.
