Asmara Abigail Reveals Kuntilanak Could Be a Symbol of Feminism in Indonesia

I'm serious," said the 27-year-old woman when met at Epicentrum XXI, Rasuna Said area, South Jakarta, on Friday (23/1/2020).

Furthermore, Asmara Abigail revealed that kuntilanak can be referred to as a symbol of feminism. Because in the real story, she is a victim who was not given the opportunity to fight for her rights.

"In my opinion, kuntilanak can be a symbol of feminism in Indonesia. Because in my opinion, she is judged by society. Because if we know, kuntilanak is never given the space to speak up and tell what makes her become kuntilanak, what makes her become a scary icon and feared by people, especially children," added Asmara.

2. Being a Scapegoat

According to Asmara Abigail, kuntilanak always becomes a scapegoat for many things. Especially in parents' efforts to scare children.

"Why do mothers always say 'Don't go out at night, or else kuntilanak will take you' when a young child goes out after dusk. I mean, we should have a space to tell the story from the kuntilanak's perspective. Because in my opinion, from the past until now, kuntilanak has always been a scapegoat," she concluded.
