Director Noora Niasari Lifts Life Experience Being the Child of an Iranian Immigrant in Australia in the Film 'SHAYDA'

Kapanlagi.com - Australian director of Iranian descent, Noora Niasari, releases her first feature film titled SHAYDA. This drama genre offering has successfully toured various prestigious festivals and has been sent as Australia's representative at the 94th Academy Awards.

Noora revealed that the film SHAYDA is adapted from real-life experiences that happened in her life. However, it was later dramatized for audiovisual purposes.

"The presence of this film is inspired by my mother's and my own experiences when I was five years old. My mother wrote a memoir about our story before it was turned into a film script. The memoir has not been published, we don't know if it will be published or not," said Noora in a special interview session in the Duren Tiga area, South Jakarta, Saturday (18/11/2023).

1. Consulting with Mother While Writing the Scenario

In the process of writing the scenario, Noora Niasari coordinates with a colleague to determine what needs to be included or not. Her mother also reads and gives advice.

"During the writing of the scenario, I have a script editor who helps determine whether certain things need to be written or not. I also consult with my mother. I can't divide the percentage between real events and dramatization, it's like a thin line," added Noora.

2. Mother's Feelings Watching the Film 'SHAYDA'

Of course, her mother has seen the final result of the film SHAYDA. As a creative individual, Noora Niasari is happy that her mother gave a positive response to the film that tells their story in the past.

"My mother is very proud of the result of this film, she is very happy. Because of this film, she was able to travel abroad to attend screenings at various festivals. According to her, this is the best thing that has happened in her life, she even cried," said Noora.

SHAYDA was first screened in Indonesia at the Jakarta World Cinema Week event. Indonesia became the second country in Asia to screen the film after it previously made a stop at the Busan International Film Festival.
