Not just any ordinary films, the Indonesian film industry is growing rapidly. This can be seen from several films below that are showcasing at the International Film Festival in Busan, South Korea.
It is known that the Busan Film Festival is one of the challenging international film festivals, but this year several Indonesian films managed to participate and be introduced to a wider audience. Curious about which films are included?
The first film is 'VANIA ON LIMA STREET' directed by Bayu Prihantoro Filemon. Before showcasing at the Busan Film Festival, this film had previously won the Silver Screen Awards at the Singapore International Film Festival in 2022.
Next is DANCING COLORS by M Reza Fahriyansyah, which won the Citra Award 2022 for Best Short Film!
Next is the short film BASRI & SALMA IN A NEVER-ENDING COMEDY by director Khozy Rizal and producer John Badalu. It is also known as a nominee for Best Short Comedy Film at the Cannes Festival 2023.
Next is WHAT THEY DON'T TALK ABOUT WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT LOVE by Mouly Surya, which also made a mark at the Busan festival.
Not to be missed is the film Ziarah by B.W Purba Negara, which has already received numerous awards such as Best Original Screenplay at the Indonesian Film Festival 2016, Best Screenplay according to Tempo Magazine 2016, and Best Film at the Salamindanaw Film Festival 2016 in the Philippines.
Next is the film SARA by Ismael Basbeth. This film will be premiered at the Busan Film Festival.
Next is the film POSESIF, which also received a series of awards during its release year. This film won the Citra Award for Best Director, Best Leading Actor, and Best Supporting Actor.
Next is a film by Joko Anwar, titled PEREMPUAN TANAH JAHANAM. This film is often hailed as the best Indonesian horror film. It won a total of 8 Citra Awards in 2020.
Lastly, there is the series GADIS KRETEK, which was recently released on Netflix on November 2nd. This film, created by Karmila Andini and Ifa Irfansyah, has stolen the hearts of the audience.
