Playing Husband and Wife in the Latest Film, Rano Karno & Maudy Koesnaedi Challenged to Break Free from the Shadow of the Film 'SI DOEL'

The film that reunites Rano Karno and Maudy Koesnaedi is a film titled PELANGI TANPA WARNA. In this film directed by Indra Gunawan, Rano and Maudy are paired as husband and wife.

According to the director, he intentionally chose Rano and Maudy to play Fedi and Kirana in the film.

"Honestly, the first person I imagined for the character of Kirana was Maudy. And if that's the case, the suitable husband would be Om Rano. Because the characters Doel and Zaenab are very distinctive. They are the most suitable for the characters," said Indra at the Falcon Pictures office, Jakarta, on Thursday (27/1/2022).

Meanwhile, being paired again with Rano Karno, according to Maudy, is a heavy challenge for her. Because she has to be able to let go of the character Zaenab that has already become a part of her.

"When I first found out that I was going to be paired with Bang Rano, I wasn't sure because I never imagined playing with Rano other than as Zaenab and Dul. So it was a consideration, I was sure, I was sure I could let go of Zaenab and Dul. I even called him," said Maudy in the same place.

After discussing with Rano Karno and understanding the character she has to play, Maudy's worries finally disappeared.

"But during filming, all worries about acting were gone, so it's an advantage for us to be actors together, our chemistry is already there, we just need to bring out our respective characters," said Maudy.

Rano Karno, who is beside Maudy, asserts that the film PELANGI TANPA WARNA will be different from SI DOEL THE MOVIE.

"This is separate from Si Doel and Zaenab because there is no Betawi element. Economically, I am also in the upper middle class here," he said.

Even to create a character different from Doel, Rano Karno shaved his hair completely bald in his latest film.

"When I was offered this, I was quite surprised because the story is heavy, meaning it demands the character. Here, playing the role requires total emotion because it's not easy," said Rano.

4. Bitter Reality

PELANGI TANPA WARNA is a film produced by Falcon Pictures, adapted from the novel of the same name by Mahfriza Kifani. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters starting February 17, 2022.

The film tells the story of a husband's struggle to maintain a household where Fedi, played by Rano Karno, has to face the bitter reality when his wife, Kirana, played by Maudy, suffers from Alzheimer's disease.

Day by day, Kirana's memory fades until she forgets that she already has a husband and child. This condition is offered by the director to stir the emotions of the audience with the skillful acting of the cast.
