The animated film MERAH PUTIH ONE FOR ALL has successfully captured public attention, one of the reasons being its title that combines Indonesian and English.
This has raised questions for some people, why a film that is heavily themed on nationalism does not fully use the Indonesian language.
In response to this, Endiarto, the executive producer of Merah Putih One for All, provided an interesting explanation. According to Endiarto, the use of English in the title is not without reason.
He stated that this was done to make it easier to be accepted by their main target audience, which is children. Endiarto elaborated further on his views.
"So this is it, yes. Today the national language, the international language, English is not something taboo, it's already slang. It's a language that all Gen Z kids, we in the film industry also use those terms even," said Endiarto when met in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, Tuesday (12/8/2025).
Furthermore, he explained that the title ONE FOR ALL, which means "one for all," was chosen because of its strong and easily understood meaning.
The choice of this phrase is considered more familiar and relatable to the ears of the younger generation today, so the message intended to be conveyed can be absorbed more easily. Endiarto outlined the purpose behind this strategy.
"So, we are making this film with a theme of nationalism for children. The title is Merah Putih One for All. Like that, one for all. Why are we using English? This is a familiar language and its meaning is easy, and it seems familiar, you know, those terms," he explained.
Endiarto emphasized that this film is specifically designed for children's consumption. Therefore, all elements in the film, including the title, are carefully thought out to align with their world. He hopes that with this approach, the messages of nationalism can be conveyed in a more enjoyable way.
"So, to keep it familiar in the middle, in the ears of children, you know. This is for children, not for adults, teenagers, let alone us parents," he concluded.
