'RAINBOW ON MARS' Showcases Unique Robot Characters, Ready to Become Indonesia's Most Iconic Family Sci-Fi Film

Kapanlagi.com - THE RAINBOW ON MARS from Mahakarya Pictures has finally released the lineup of characters that will appear in the story, including Rainbow and the unique robots that become her adventure companions. Set in the year 2090 when Earth is lacking clean water, this film brings a touching story from the red planet, packaged in the science fiction genre with a strong family drama touch.

The film features a main character named Rainbow, played by Messi Gusti, a 12-year-old girl who was born and raised on Mars. Rainbow, portrayed by Messi Gusti, is the first human to be born and grow up on Mars. Left behind by human colonies, Rainbow must live alone on the silent planet until an unexpected encounter with old robots changes everything.

Not only offering a space adventure story, Rainbow on Mars also presents relevant global conflicts: the clean water crisis on Earth dominated by the giant company Nerotex. Together with them, Rainbow pursues the last hope of humanity: a magical mineral called Zeolith Omega, believed to be capable of purifying water on Earth. This mission makes Rainbow a symbol of hope for the new generation.

Director Upie Guava has been preparing this project since 2020, inspired by great works like Star Wars and The Mandalorian. He wants Indonesia to have a sci-fi film with visual quality and technology that is on par with international standards. Furthermore, Upie also explained about the character strength of Pelangi, which is able to unite the robots with its innocent personality.

"This is a film designed from many puzzles in the head, random like that. Pelangi on Mars sounds interesting, that's why it's placed in the title," said Upie Guava during a press conference at DossGuava XR Studio, Pejaten, Thursday (17/7).

"How this human child, Pelangi, assembles the robots that initially fought each other into a beautiful harmony," he said.

1. Challenges for the Actors

This unification process becomes the emotional core of a story that touches across generations. The main actors, Rio Dewanto as Banyu, Lutesha as Pratiwi, and Messi Gusti as Pelangi face new challenges in this project. They have to shoot with advanced special effects at Doss Guava XR Studio.

"I have a hard time wearing this suit, it's heavy, my movements have to be so many, so powerful," Messi revealed about the experience of wearing an astronaut costume.

Adding to the visual appeal, the astronaut helmets worn by the actors even weigh nearly 3 kg. "But because there’s a fan, we’re sometimes comfortable. It’s just that sometimes it’s a bit hard to hear people talking," said Rio.

With support from PT Produksi Film Negara or PFN and Raffi Ahmad as the Special Envoy of the President, this film is gaining more attention. With a moral message about hope, collaboration, and resource protection, RAINBOW ON MARS is ready to become the most iconic family science fiction film ever made in Indonesia.
