Sinemart Reveals Challenges of Shooting Vertical Drama, Signals Cultural Elements to be Included

Behind the enthusiasm of the actors in four new short films for MyTelkomsel, Sinemart CEO David Suwarto revealed unique production challenges, especially due to the vertical format used.

According to him, the actors starring in Beautiful Revenge to The Billionaire's Love Contract had to adapt to a more confined movement space. Here are the details.

"Vertical framing is smaller than the usual horizontal. So they also need to be careful in terms of blocking so they don't go out of the camera's view," David explained when met in the Gatot Subroto area, South Jakarta, Thursday (7/8/2025).

"They also have to maintain their emotions while acting and think about not moving from a certain blocking," he said.

Nevertheless, he sees all the actors from the four titles as very energetic and supportive of this new format. Regarding future development, David hinted at plans to explore other genres beyond the romantic drama that currently dominates.

He does not rule out the possibility of presenting stories with other professions such as doctors or lawyers.

"That's the hope. Of course, we are also studying whether there are Indonesian cultures that we can incorporate here as well," he said.

However, for the time being, Sinemart and Telkomsel will focus on presenting content that aligns with market preferences first.

"For now, we want to provide what the public seems to like while we look for ways to innovate in the future," concluded David.
