The Film 'SUGAR FACTORY' Ready to Enter the American Market, Offers Two Versions for Audiences - Different in Duration

The Indonesian film industry is once again making significant strides on the international stage. The film SUGAR FACTORY, produced by MD Pictures, will hold its gala premiere in Los Angeles, United States, on March 27, 2025.

"We will release in the US, gala premiere in LA on March 27," said Manoj Punjabi, the film's producer, at a press conference in South Jakarta on Monday (10/3/2025). Here are the details.

Sugar Factory is the second film from MD Pictures released directly to the American market, following the success of BADARAWUHI IN THE DANCING VILLAGE. This move is a new strategy for MD to expand its reach to international audiences. "We will continue to try with the best works from MD to break through to the outside," added Manoj.

This film tells the story of a group of seasonal workers in a factory who encounter terror after accidentally disturbing the demon kingdom. Combining horror elements and local culture, this film is expected to attract the attention of not only audiences in Indonesia but also in America.

In addition to entering the international market, SUGAR FACTORY also has a unique distribution strategy in the homeland. This film will be released in two different versions, namely the Yellow Clock version and the Red Clock version.

"The yellow clock is 17 years, while the Uncut Sugar Factory is the red clock. Our strategy will involve two films, and these two films will still be Sugar Factory but with certain elements, the storytelling will be clearer, more precise, and more complete," explained Manoj Punjabi.

Manoj also explained the main differences between the two versions, including in terms of duration and airing time. The censored Red Clock version for audiences aged 21 and over has a duration that is one minute longer than the Yellow Clock version.

"Our strategy for the Uncut Red Clock Sugar Factory will air in the evening show, the red clock at 8 PM in several cinemas, while the yellow clock is more flexible," he added.

This step is taken to provide flexibility for viewers in choosing the version that best suits their preferences. Manoj hopes this strategy can enhance the appeal of the SUGAR FACTORY in the domestic market while also creating a unique experience for the audience.
