Who doesn't love Korean dramas? Love triangles, handsome and beautiful characters, plus romantic scenes that make you feel all the feels, all of that keeps us glued to the screen for hours. But what if love stories in real life aren't as beautiful as they seem? Well, that's what will be explored in the latest film by Meira Anastasia, titled LOVE IS NOT AS BEAUTIFUL AS KOREAN DRAMA (CTSDK).

This film focuses on Dhea, an ordinary woman who is in a serious relationship with Bimo. Their relationship is going well, until suddenly Julian, Dhea's first love from high school, reappears in her life. Can you imagine Dhea's dilemma between choosing a boyfriend who is always there for her or an ex who still has feelings in her heart?

The film will be released in theaters starting December 5, 2024 and presents a story that will make you rethink love, friendship, and life. With a lineup of renowned stars such as Lutesha, Ganindra Bimo, Jerome Kurnia, Anya Geraldine, Dea Panendra, and two Korean actors, Sung Byoung-sook and Jeon Jin-sik, this film combines the unique style of Korean dramas with local touches that are guaranteed to relate to our daily lives.

Curious about the storyline? Let's go ahead and check out the explanation below!

All the drama begins when Dhea (Lutesha) receives a birthday gift from Bimo (Ganindra Bimo) in the form of vacation tickets to Korea with her two friends, Kikan (Dea Panendra) and Tara (Anya Geraldine). In Seoul, many unexpected things happen, including Dhea's meeting with Julian (Jerome Kurnia). What was intended as a refreshing getaway turns into an opportunity for Dhea to face a difficult choice.

The relationship between Dhea, Kikan, and Tara is also not free from conflict. Their journey in Seoul actually uncovers secrets that each of them has kept. There is Kikan who is struggling to save her marriage, and Tara who has to face rumors of infidelity. Their friendship becomes increasingly complicated, but that is where they learn to understand each other.

The writer and director of this film, Meira Anastasia, admitted that during the pandemic she became a huge fan of Korean dramas. That is also what ultimately inspired her to make this film, with a romantic storytelling style like the dramas she watched. But although inspired by Korean dramas, this film still has a strong Indonesian nuance and is definitely very relatable.

“Since the writing, I have imagined how each scene will be developed. There are several approaches reminiscent of Korean drama shots that we indeed used in this film. Meanwhile, from the story side, of course, fans of Korean dramas will find familiarity. That there is a love triangle, there is a lead and second lead actor, indeed in its execution, this film uses a Korean drama approach, with the flavor of Indonesian cinema,” said Meira Anastasia.

Ernest Prakasa as the producer added that the production house Imajinari is always committed to supporting young creators in developing their fresh ideas. So, it’s no wonder that this film will feel original and have a depth of story that is rarely found in similar genres.

“Imaginary always believes in the stories brought by its creators. We are confident that by providing space and full support to the creators, it will create works that can not only be enjoyed but also have maturity of ideas within them,” said Ernest Prakasa.

For those of you who are already familiar with Lutesha, this time she appears differently. There are no eccentric characters, but rather a simple, adorable woman.

Ganindra Bimo also steps out of his badass zone to portray the sweet and caring Bimo.

Meanwhile, Julian, played by Jerome Kurnia, appears as a man with a dark past and a fragile heart. "Julian is someone who is a lost soul. He is still searching for the meaning of the emptiness he feels. Until finally, he is given the opportunity to meet Dhea, who, according to Julian, is capable of filling his emptiness. Julian is someone who has lost many things he loves. With Dhea, Julian has new hope," said the actor portraying Julian, Jerome Kurnia.
