Here are 5 Cool Facts about the 'PEACEMAKER' Series Starring John Cena

In collaboration with HBO Max, Gunn will work on a series that focuses on the character PEACEMAKER played by John Cena. With the title PEACEMAKER, John Cena will reprise his role as a justice enforcer.

As the name suggests, PEACEMAKER is a character who loves peace so much, even doing the wrong things for peace. Before seeing John Cena's action as PEACEMAKER in his latest series, let's first take a look at these 5 facts

1. Worked on out of boredom

James Gunn began working on the script for the solo series PEACEMAKER in August 2020. He wrote the entire first season in 8 weeks during the COVID quarantine.

The reason was because he was bored being stuck at home during the pandemic. Initially, he didn't really believe that the series would be approved. However, after seeing his work, HBO finally approved the script. The filming process for the PEACEMAKER series has even taken place from January 15 to July 11, 2021.

2. First Series in DCEU

PEACEMAKER is not the first series to feature DC Comics superheroes. There have been previous ones like SUPERGIRL, ARROW, THE FLASH and many more.

However, the series that tells the story of Christopher Smith will be the first television series set in the DC Extended Universe. That means Peacemaker is set in the same world as all the JUSTICE LEAGUE heroes you have watched before, including MAN OF STEEL and WONDER WOMAN.

3. Second Appearance of Vigilante

Besides PEACEMAKER, there are other heroes featured in this series. One of them is Adrian Chase, also known as The Vigilante. This will be the second live action appearance of these characters after previously appearing in the series ARROW.

Adrian Chase himself holds similar beliefs to PEACEMAKER. After losing his family, he becomes a Vigilante ready to punish criminals, something that cannot be done by the world's justice system.

4. Originally Not John Cena

Cena was not the director's first choice to portray PEACEMAKER. James Gunn initially wanted the actor who played Drax in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, Dave Bautista. However, Bautista chose to star in ARMY OF THE DEAD directed by Zack Snyder.

After Bautista dropped out of THE SUICIDE SQUAD project, Gunn ultimately chose John Cena to play PEACEMAKER. John Cena has been gaining popularity in recent years, starring in several big films such as FAST N FURIOUS and TRAINWRECK.

5. Not an Original DC Creation

The character created by Joe Gill and Pat Boyette is actually not a character created for DC Comics. PEACEMAKER is a comic released by another company called Charlton Comics.

Unfortunately, Charlton Comics went bankrupt in the 1980s. After being acquired by DC Comics, various copyrights of Charlton Comics characters, including PEACEMAKER, also became the property of DC.
