GOOD NEWS presents a tense satirical thriller set in the 1970s with a story of a politically charged plane hijacking. Starring Sul Kyung-gu, Hong Kyung, and Ryoo Seung-bum, this film offers suspense, surprises, and dark humor typical of director Byun Sung-hyun. The film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in September 2025, followed by a global release on Netflix on October 17, 2025.

The first trailer for GOOD NEWS has finally been released, showcasing tense scenes inside the hijacked plane. The film is directed by Byun Sung-hyun, the director behind KILL BOKSOON and THE KINGMAKER.

This film stars a lineup of top actors: Sul Kyung-gu, Hong Kyung, and Ryoo Seung-bum. They portray complex characters involved in political drama and air rescue action.

Set in 1970, the story begins when a commercial flight from Haneda to Itazuke is hijacked by the Red Army Faction. They demand that the plane be redirected to Pyongyang.

Unfortunately, those demands are impossible to fulfill. Japan and North Korea lack the diplomatic infrastructure to land the plane, causing the hijackers' plans to begin unraveling.

In Seoul, a mysterious figure named "Nobody" played by Sul Kyung-gu emerges. This character is known for his actions that often make the news, but his identity has never been revealed.

The governments of Japan, South Korea, and the United States intervene. From crazy strategies like parking another plane on the runway to hacking radio signals, everything is done to save the hostages.

Director Byun Sung-hyun does not hold back in building tension. From shocking scene cuts, spine-chilling music inserts, to intense close-ups, everything is used to make the audience feel the thrill.

GOOD NEWS is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (September 5) and the Busan International Film Festival (September 18) before its global release on Netflix on October 17, 2025.
