Screening of the Film Titled Shayda Marks the End of Jakarta World Cinema Week 2023

Kapanlagi.com - Jakarta World Cinema Week (JWCW) 2023, which has been held since November 11, has finally officially closed. The closing was marked by the screening of a film titled Shayda at CGV Grand Indonesia.

The film Shayda itself tells the story of the struggles of Iranian refugees in Australia. Noora Niasari, the director, revealed that she had difficulty finding the right actor for the role of the young child character in the film Shayda.

Moreover, there were 100 young children who were cast for the role.

"All went through the casting process, with 100 people auditioning for the role of the young child and this child was chosen, with satisfying results. We had a 2-week reading process with their pronunciation," said Noora Niasari when met in the Thamrin area, Central Jakarta, recently.

1. Difficulty Finding Actors

When asked further, not only the difficulty of finding suitable actors, but the process of this film also encountered several obstacles. That is because Noora Niasari had to remember her past.

"The process is quite challenging, that I have to face that moment again. I go back to my childhood, yes, it's tough," she said.

"But the reason I made this is, it represents many things, I want women to no longer live in silence," she continued.

2. Not Only Talking About Evacuation

Noora also explained that the film Shayda not only tells about refugees, but in this film it also tells the story of a woman who wants to escape from domestic violence.

"It's not just about 'eviction' (refugees from Iran), but how Muslim women can escape from domestic violence," she said.

In addition, Shandy Gasella, as the Festival Director of JWCW, also announced the audience's favorite film during the JWCW 2023 event. The audience's favorite film is Insha Allah A Boy.

Insha Allah A Boy is starred by Mouna Hawa, Haitham Omari, Yumna Marwan, Salwa Nakkara, Mohammad Al Jizawi, Eslam Al-Awadi, and Celina Rabab'a.
