Amidst the crowds of visitors, two teenage siblings, Zach and Gray Mitchell, visit the park for a holiday. They are the nephews of Claire Dearing, the park's operational manager. However, when Claire is too busy working, the two boys break the rules and explore the park alone without supervision.

Claire, along with the park's CEO, Simon Masrani, introduces a new species called Indominus rex, a genetically engineered dinosaur that is larger and smarter than other prehistoric creatures.
