Trailer THE PROM Released, Sneak Peek into the Story of Broadway Actors Who Become Party Saviors

Kapanlagi.com - THE PROM has just released its trailer.This musical drama genre film tells the story of Broadway actors named Dee Dee Allen (Meryl Streep) and Barry Glickman (James Corden) who try to save their reputation after facing failure.Not just any failure, the failure makes their careers disappear in the blink of an eye.

When they are looking for a way to return to the world of Broadway shows, a news is going viral on social media.Emma Nolan (Jo Ellen Pellman), a senior high school student, wants to bring her girlfriend to the dance party event.However, the student guardians oppose it because they want the dance party event to remain sacred.

This caught the attention of Dee Dee Allen and Barry Glickman.They decided to help Emma Nolan attend the dance party event with her girlfriend.They hope that by helping Emma, their popularity will rise again. Angie Dickinson (Nicole Kidman) and Trent Oliver (Andrew Rannells), other Broadway actors who want to become famous, join the struggle of Dee Dee Allen and Barry Glickman.  

1. Original Broadway Musical Adaptation

The film THE PROM will be another Netflix adaptation film. With the same title, this musical drama premiered at the Alliance Theatre in Georgia in 2016, and at the Longacre Theatre on Broadway in October 2018. This musical drama tells the story of a high school student who is opposed by her school to attend a prom because she brings her girlfriend. The student sues the school and becomes viral on social media. Broadway actors, who were then experiencing a decline in their careers, decide to solve this student's case as a form of re-branding themselves to become famous again in society.

The musical drama THE PROM is written by Jack Viertel, with music composed by Matthew Sklar with lyrics by Chad Begueli. The director and choreographer are Casey Nicholaw (ALADDIN, MEAN GIRLS). In 2019, this musical drama successfully won the Best Musical Drama award at the Drama Desk Awards. Not only that, this musical drama received 7 Tony Awards nominations (the highest award for theater drama, similar to the Oscar Awards for film, Grammy Awards for music, and Emmy Awards for television) and 21 nominations at various other award events.

It is planned that this musical drama will continue to be shown at the Providence Arts Center, Rhode Island in February 2021. 

2. Old Characters, New Actors

The film adaptation of THE PROM will be directed by Ryan Murphy, and will star Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Andrew Rannels, and Arianna Debose. Although not using the actors from the original musical drama, Ryan Murphy will still highlight their success in his film. Ryan Murphy seems to be serious about this. It can be seen in the newly uploaded trailer, Meryl Streep who plays Dee Dee Allen shows off her 2 Tony Awards trophies to get a premium hotel room. Dee Dee Allen in the musical drama is played by Beth Leavel and she indeed has 2 Tony Awards.

THE PROM will premiere on Netflix on December 11, 2020.
