1. Formerly a Trainee at SM Entertainment

It is known that before joining the survival show, I-LAND, Yang Jungwon was a trainee at SM Entertainment. Many sources mention that Jungwon underwent a trainee period at SM Entertainment for quite a long time.

This allowed him to get to know and even be friends with fellow trainees at SM Entertainment. Especially since Jung Sungchan had not debuted with NCT at that time. Fans believe that their closeness started from there.

2. Leaving SM Entertainment, Moving to Big Hit Entertainment

After leaving SM Entertainment, Jungwon chose to switch agencies to Big Hit Entertainment. In a live broadcast on VLIVE with Heeseung, another member of ENHYPEN, Jungwon once explained the reason when fans asked how he ended up at Big Hit Entertainment.

"I have a close friend who became a trainee at Big Hit Entertainment before me. He and his mother told the Big Hit casting team about me. They also showed them my photo. Then, the Big Hit casting team became interested in seeing my abilities and talents," revealed Jungwon.

Jungwon was then offered an audition and was accepted by the Big Hit casting team. Only after that, he became an official trainee at Big Hit Entertainment. Naturally, since then, Jungwon no longer had direct interaction with Sungchan or his fellow trainee friends at SM Entertainment.

3. Debut in the Same Year

In 2020, Big Hit collaborated with CJ ENM to hold I-LAND, a survival show. All trainees who participated in the survival show were transferred to the joint company of Big Hit and CJ ENM, named BELIFT LAB, including Jungwon. This is because the K-Pop group that will debut is permanent.

During I-LAND, Jungwon showed his best abilities, especially his unique vocals and amazing dance skills. As a result, he ranked first and debuted with ENHYPEN in 2020. Interestingly, despite being very young, Jungwon was chosen as the leader of ENHYPEN.
