According to Korea Times, Lim Se Ryung studied management at Yonsei University and continued her studies at New York University in the field of Psychology. She served as the creative director of Daesang Group in 2012 and was responsible for overseeing arrangement, planning, marketing, and food brand design.
Lim Se Ryung married Lee Jae Yong, who is now the chairman of Samsung, in 1999. They divorced ten years later after having a son and a daughter.
Since 2016, Lim Se Ryung has been promoted as the executive director of Daesang Group. Previously in 2014, Lim Se Ryung introduced Chungjungone, a popular food brand among young people. Two years later, Chungjungone became a pioneer in ready-made products. Lim Se Ryung is the person behind the successful launch of the online-only brand Daesang Group since 2017.
In 2021, Lim Se Ryung was promoted as the vice-chairwoman of Daesang Group. She is also the second-largest shareholder in Daesang Holdings with a stake of 20.41%. The third-largest shareholder is her sister, Lim Sang Min, who is now an executive director.
Lim Se Ryung has known Lee Jung Jae since 2005. In 2010, they were rumored to have vacationed together in the Philippines and were reported to have gotten married in 2012. However, they only admitted to dating in 2015.
In 2019, Lim Se Ryung and Lee Jung Jae attracted attention when attending the 7th Art Basel Hong Kong Art Market event in Hong Kong and the 2019 LACMA Art + Film Gala in LA, United States.
