G-Dragon Becomes Guest Professor at KAIST, Teaching Mechanical Engineering Students

After a long hiatus from the music world, G-Dragon suddenly made a new breakthrough. He has just been appointed as a guest professor at the prestigious Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, or KAIST.

G-Dragon received the title of guest professor after participating in the Innovate Korea 2024 event held at KAIST. The appointment of G-Dragon as a guest professor at the prestigious university aims to enhance the global competitiveness of South Korean culture.

"It is an honor to be a guest professor at KAIST, which has produced many geniuses in the field of science," said G-Dragon, as quoted on The Korea Herald, Wednesday (5/6/2024).

The singer of the song Fantastic Baby then added, "I am looking forward to a great synergy, or 'big bang,' through the meeting between the greatest experts in science and technology, and my expertise in the entertainment field."

1. Teaching Students of Mechanical Engineering Department

G-Dragon's tenure as a guest professor at KAIST will last for two full years until 2026. With his new title, G-Dragon will deliver special lectures on leadership for undergraduate and graduate students of the mechanical engineering department.

G-Dragon will share his vision and expertise as a musician and artist. His artistic experience is considered to be able to help students foster interdisciplinary creativity and talent. In addition to serving as a guest professor, the man whose real name is Kwon Ji Yong also acts as a global ambassador for KAIST.

2. Focus on K-Pop and AI

During Innovate Korea 2024, G-Dragon, along with the President of KAIST and Choi Yong Ho from Galaxy Corporation, discussed the future of K-Pop and artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

KAIST also explained that they and G-Dragon will collaborate in promoting Korean culture. They will work together by integrating science and technology into Korean contents.

"Professor Kwon (G-Dragon) plans to collaborate on research on digital twin technology for Hallyu artists, research on the convergence of Korean culture and technology such as artificial intelligence, robots, and metaverse, as well as developing artist avatars using cutting-edge technologies such as volumetric, motion capture, and haptic at the KAIST-Galaxy Corporation Enter-tech Research Center (Entertainment and Technology) to be established within the mechanical engineering department at KAIST," KAIST stated.

3. Contract with Galaxy Corporation

Last year, G-Dragon signed an exclusive contract with Galaxy Corporation. In line with his vision and interests, the musician has been engaging in activities related to artificial intelligence technology.

“The number of people working with artificial intelligence in the music field is increasing, and this cutting-edge technology allows for more diverse creative works,” said G-Dragon. “Through the artificial intelligence avatar developed together with Galaxy Corporation and KAIST, we are able to connect with more people. I want to communicate more closely with fans around the world who cannot be met in person.”

In January, G-Dragon was also known to have attended the Consumer Electronics Show 2024 (CES 2024) in Las Vegas. The event is an international exhibition of electronics and information technology.

G-Dragon himself is known as a genius musician. He is one of the South Korean musicians who has received a lot of appreciation. After being awarded the title of professor at a young age, his name soared even higher. Many netizens praised him, judging that not just anyone could be chosen as a professor at a young age.

In 2008, G-Dragon briefly pursued education at Kyung Hee University and focused on studying post-modern music. However, because of his busy schedule as a musician, he decided to drop out of college.

Afterwards, in 2013, G-Dragon switched to studying Recreation Sports at Gukje Cyber University. He then continued his postgraduate studies at Sejong University and successfully obtained a master's degree in content and retail distribution.
