Great Success! 'EXHUMA' Becomes the First Korean Horror Film to Reach 10 Million Viewers

Wow! The film directed by Jang Jae-hyun has surpassed 10 million viewers since its release until last Sunday (24/3). EXHUMA has become one of the popular Korean films this year. Not only that, according to Soompi, EXHUMA also set a new record as the first Korean occult horror film to reach the fantastic number of 10 million viewers in 31 days. With this record, the film starring Lee Do-hyun and Kim Go-eun entered the 23rd place in the history of the South Korean box office.

Since its release on February 22, EXHUMA has received great enthusiasm from viewers. This is because the film is filled with big stars like Lee Do-hyun, Choi Min-sik, and Kim Go-eun. The visuals displayed through the trailer also make the audience curious about Lee Do-hyun's charming appearance, which resembles one of the anime characters, Suguru Geto from Jujutsu Kaisen. Of course, this made fans very excited after its release. In Indonesia itself, EXHUMA has reached 2 million viewers and may continue to increase.

The story of the gravedigger and the shaman has achieved great success and they celebrated it in a studio. The cast and crew of EXHUMA appeared happy, capturing this historic moment. Not to mention the Japanese general actor, Kim Byung-oh, standing on the left side behind the crew and cast. The celebration was without the presence of the shaman's assistant, Yoon Bong-gil (Lee Do-hyun), who is currently serving in the military. As a replacement, there was a standee of Lee Do-hyun on the right side behind the cast and crew during the group photo.

Since this is a horror film with a gravedigger and shaman theme, they also presented a cake shaped like a coffin with two human skull accents, two snakes, and a real-looking grave. However, they didn't forget to include a shovel as a digging tool. Pretty scary, right, Klovers?

2. Jang Jae-hyun Reveals Issues with EXHUMA Sequel or Spin-off

As the director of EXHUMA, Jang Jae-hyun revealed to reporters on (21/3) that there will be no release of a sequel or spin-off of the film. This opinion is also supported by his own argument, "I have no plans to continue it. I don't intend to make a film targeting specific people or film lovers," explained Jae-hyun. "But improvising the story just for commercial success is not in line with my production plans," he added during an interview with reporters in Seoul.

Instead, Jang Jae-hyun will create a good story and make more stories about the characters. So, look forward to the next upcoming films from director Jang Jae-hyun!
