Kai EXO Gets the Nickname 'Underwear Oppa' After His Viral Video, Initially Hated but Eventually Liked

"My favorite is 'Bear'," Kai answered as quoted from Soompi.

"They call me that because I resemble a bear and it's my favorite nickname. They also seem to really like it," he continued.

Recently, it was revealed that Kai also received a new nickname, 'Panty Oppa' (underwear oppa). The 1994-born idol couldn't help but laugh when discussing this unique nickname.

1. Hate Becomes Love

The nickname originated from a clip of the Knowing Brothers video, where Kai misheard Baekhyun saying "two syllables inside padding," as "two syllables inside panty," when they were playing the 'headphone' game. Panty, which comes from the English word 'panties,' is used in Korea to refer to both men's and women's underwear.

"At first, I didn't really like the nickname 'Panty Oppa,' but many people find it endearing," he said.

"Now I feel [the nickname] is enjoyable and I like it." added the SuperM member.

2. Goes Viral

The video clip itself has surpassed 20 million views. When asked if Kai expected himself to go viral, this multi-talented idol answered that he actually didn't know and just felt it was a funny situation.

"Topics like that are really funny. I also laughed while watching it and my mom really liked it. Honestly, when I'm with old friends, they say that I'm the funniest, and I think people got to know that side of me thanks to this video," he said.

3. Worried for a While

Furthermore, Kai admitted that he was worried after his video went viral. However, slowly Kai felt relieved after knowing that people saw him as a different person when he was on stage compared to his daily life. Now, he is more relaxed and positive in responding to it.

"People who don't know me might recognize Kai as 'Panty Oppa' and think that my dance looks funny when they watch my performance video. I only thought it was a funny situation when we were filming, but after that, many people started calling me 'Panty Oppa' more than I expected. Someone I met for the first time even suddenly said to me, 'You're successful because of your underwear.' Honestly, that really stressed me out," said the person whose birth name is Kim Jong In.

"However, the people who got to know me because of 'Panty Oppa' actually searched for my performance videos to watch. There are some comments on the video like 'Is this really 'Panty Oppa'?' and 'He's really good at dancing, contrary to the image of 'Panty Oppa','" he concluded.
