South Korean shooter Kim Ye Ji, who went viral during the Paris 2024 Olympics, has decided to temporarily halt her career and terminate her contract with her team at Imsil County Hall. South Korean shooter and medalist at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Kim Ye Ji, has resigned from the team that contracted her and is temporarily halting her athletic career.
On November 6, 2024, Korean media reported a statement from Kim's management, PLFIL, announcing that Kim Ye Ji has terminated her contract.
"After the National Sports Festival concluded last month, there are no more competitions scheduled for the remainder of 2024, and considering that the next season will start in April 2025, Kim Ye Ji's contract was terminated early," explained PLFIL.
According to the Imsil County Hall, Kim Ye Ji submitted her resignation letter on October 16, 2024, stating her desire to focus on raising her child and other personal matters that she had neglected.
"I want to take a break from my journey as an Olympic medalist. I want to focus on spending time with my child, fully embracing my role as a mother. I hope this break is seen as a process for my growth and as fuel for further development as a shooter," said Kim Ye Ji.
However, Chosun Ilbo revealed that Kim Ye Ji's desire to focus on parenting may not be the main reason behind her resignation and break from the shooting world.
"Kim Ye Ji's decision to take a break from her athletic career is not solely for parenting. Kim Ye Ji has been under great pressure due to malicious comments. It seems that for this reason, she feels the need to rest. Although she appears strong, Kim Ye Ji is actually very sensitive. Despite having many supporters, there are also people who harass her, asking for money and abusing her through private messages on social media," explained a representative from PLFIL to No Cut News.
Amid concerns, PLFIL emphasized that Kim Ye Ji's activities outside of shooting, such as promoting the sport of shooting, will continue. On the other hand, as of November 1, 2024, Kim Ye Ji will become the first ambassador for Tesla Korea.
