Korean Singer Kwon Do Woon Admits to Being Gay on the Celebration of His 10-Year Career

This confession was made directly by Kwon Do Woon through his agency. With this admission, he becomes the first trot singer to come out as gay in Korea.

"I want to talk about the rights of sexual minorities and open the door for others to have the courage to come out in the entertainment industry," said Kwon Do Woon.

1. A Glimpse of Kwon Do Woon

Kwon Do Woon began his career as a singer and songwriter in 2009 after winning the Grand Prize, Best Lyricist, and Best Composer at the College Trot Song Festival, while he was still a journalism student at Sogang University. His first album titled ONE MORE GLASS, IT'S MY STYLE (translated title) was released in 2010 when he was still using his real name, Kwon Hyuk Min.

The following year, he used the stage name Kwonstin when he released the trot dance song titled Tonight. He has just released a remake of Jang Yoon Jung's trot dance Latin song, Casanova, marking his 10-year career in the entertainment industry.

2. Willing to Provide Strength

With this confession, Kwon Do Woon wants to provide encouragement for LGBT individuals who aspire to become singers. "I want to be someone who can make you feel like you have a family and give you strength," said Kwon Do Woon.

After the news of his confession became public, Kwon Do Woon uploaded a screenshot of one of the articles on his Instagram account. "I was very surprised to see so many articles this morning. I will work harder. Thank you for your support."

3. Glad to Receive Support

In a phone interview with Newsen media, Kwon Do Woon was asked if he hoped to receive support from the public like now. "I didn't expect it at all. I am grateful and happy. It's an honor," he said.

Kwon Do Woon also admitted that he received many offers to appear on various television shows. He said he actually wanted to appear on the MBC show, Omniscient Interfering View, to show who he is along with his manager.

4. Will Release an Album

Kwon Do Woon himself will release his latest album on October 30th. "This is my eighth album. The main single is a gay trot remake version of the song Chaeyeon, Two of Us. It's a dance trot song about a man seducing another man and it will be something new and fresh," he concluded.
