In South Korea, there are several universities specifically for women. Currently, there is a discussion about these women's universities planning to accept male students. This plan has led many female students at the women's campus to condemn and protest to end the discussion.

According to Joongang Daily, hundreds of Dongduk Women's University students gathered to protest and discuss the idea of their university becoming a co-educational institution (for both women and men) on Tuesday (12/11/2024).

About 200 students stood in front of their campus's main building in Seongbuk District, Seoul.

"Our emergency committee will not stop the class boycott and sit-in protests until we achieve the following three goals," said the emergency committee of Dongduk Women's University to the press.

"We demand that the campus officially end discussions to change (their campus) into a coeducational institution, hold direct presidential elections for the university, and announce further plans regarding (the admission of) male international students," she added.

The student council also criticized the university for accusing students of protesting based on misinformation and urged the administration to officially commit to stopping discussions about becoming a coeducational campus.

"Becoming a coeducational campus is not a decision that the university can make independently. Input from university members is very important," said the statement from Dongduk's student president, Kim Myung Ae.

The protest by Dongduk Women's University students has not only attracted attention from South Koreans.
