KARD is one of the co-ed or mixed idol groups formed by DSP Media in 2016. KARD consists of four members including J.Seph, BM, Somin, and Jiwoo, they officially debuted on July 19, 2017, by releasing the mini album HOLA-HOLA. KARD's latest comeback was in September 2019 with the release of a digital single titled Dumb Litty.
When KARD promoted their single Bomb Bomb, Jiwoo mentioned several reasons behind the difficulties of this co-ed group when they were preparing for a comeback.
Jiwoo explained that most music producers only write songs for single-gender groups, where the song is specifically dedicated to either female or male groups. If not, producers only create instrumental music for duets or solo artists.
In order to satisfy their fans, KARD usually requests songs to be written by producers. This is because there are very few mixed-gender groups in K-Pop music.
KARD cannot choose from various music examples and combinations of instruments that are available like other groups.
Fans believe this is why BM often takes over in producing songs and writing lyrics for KARD's next comeback.

KARD also has its own unique music style that deviates from electropop, hip hop, EDM, and R&B, which has become a trend in the American music market.
