[REVIEW] 'SINKHOLE' Laughter in the Tragedy of an Apartment Sinking into a Sinkhole

Kapanlagi.com - After eleven years of struggle, Park Dong-Won finally managed to buy an apartment to live with his wife and son. Dong-Won obtained the residence by ignoring the bad facts just because the price was cheap.

One morning, the apartment building collapses into a giant hole leading to the Earth's core in just a few minutes. Dong-Won and several people inside the apartment try to find a way to survive while waiting to be rescued.

If you imagine that SINKHOLE directed by Kim Ji-Hoon will be a serious disaster movie after reading a glimpse of the story offered, the answer is wrong. Instead, this film is presented as a comedy.

Many funny antics of the characters are guaranteed to make the audience laugh. In fact, they can laugh and cry at the same time because there are several comedic scenes presented alongside its dramatic elements. Of course, these two facts do not forget the tropes that must be present in the disaster genre.

1. Fourth Highest Grossing Film in South Korea

SINKHOLE has been released in its home country since August. The film has successfully ranked fourth as the highest-grossing film in South Korea in 2021 after ESCAPE FROM MOGADISHU, BLACK WIDOW, and DEMON SLAYER: MUGEN TRAIN.

This success is certainly not detached from the unique material being offered. Sinkhole is a rarely found phenomenon. So the public is curious about the condition of the environment.

Not to mention the cast that also enlivens this film. In addition to Kim Sung-Kyun as Park Dong-Won, there are also familiar actor names. Such as Cha Seung-Won as a miscellaneous worker father, Lee Kwang Soo as an office worker with funny behavior, and the charming appearance of Nam Da-Reum (actor who played teenage Han Ji-Pyeong in START-UP) that instantly captivates women.

SINKHOLE has been shown in CGV Cinemas starting from September 19, 2021. For disaster movie genre fans, it would be a pity to miss the opportunity to watch this film in theaters because it will be different if watched on a mobile screen.
