Solar MAMAMOO Invites Viewers to Raise Awareness of the Danger of Female Circumcision

On February 6th, the MAMAMOO leader uploaded a serious video. The video titled "Traditional ritual for women that is most painful... truly the worst ritual" discusses the danger of female circumcision.

Female circumcision is the cutting or removal of external female genitalia. The UN has designated February 6th as the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. This commemoration aims to eliminate the practice of female circumcision worldwide because, in addition to having no health benefits, this ritual also violates the ethical codes of the healthcare profession and human rights.

1. The Danger of Female Circumcision

In her video, Solar explains the findings she obtained while researching deeper into the practice of female circumcision so that viewers can understand it more easily. This woman, born in 1991, states that female circumcision is still a tradition in some African countries, such as Somalia, Guinea, Egypt, and Mali. Almost 90% of women in these countries undergo this painful ritual.

Solar adds that this ritual is not performed by experts. The people who usually perform this ritual are tribal leaders, and those who refuse to undergo circumcision will be punished by the local community, such as having their hands cut off. This ritual is performed without anesthesia and adequate medical tools, resulting in extreme pain and heavy bleeding. Additionally, this ritual is also prone to causing obstetric fistula (the formation of a passage between the rectum and vagina or between the bladder and vagina, leading to uncontrollable urine and feces leakage). This condition causes an unpleasant odor, resulting in many women being abandoned by their husbands.

2. Female Circumcision in Solar's Eyes

The owner of the real name Kim Yong Sun believes that female circumcision should be abolished because the ritual is incorrect and considered malpractice. She also hopes that everyone will support the elimination of this ritual. There is no need to do something big, just by finding out, discussing with friends, and praying for the victims can already be a small support that can be applied daily.

At the end of the video, Solar announced that viewers can donate to the victims of female circumcision through World Vision and Plan Korea. This Korean idol also informed that she has just made a donation through the Plan Korea website. Although she admitted that the amount she donated is not much, but she donated to express support for this cause.
