Synopsis of 'BETTER DAYS', a Chinese Romantic Drama that Addresses the Theme of Bullying

BETTER DAYS  is a Chinese drama film released in 2019 and directed by Derek Tsang. The film is based on the novel In His Youth, In Her Beauty by Jiu Yuexi.  According to IMDb, the film has a rating of 7.6/10 from 12,000 reviews and won the Snow Leopard Special Jury Award in Los Angeles in March 2021.

Told in one of the high schools in China, the tragedy of a female student who recently committed suicide. Hu Xiaodie, a victim of bullying by her classmates, became the pinnacle of the bullying case that shook the school. While other students were fixated on the incident, Chen Nian was one of those who had the courage to approach her friend's body. 

However, Chen Nian's good deeds actually triggered a new wave of bullying that she experienced. Wei Lain, the main perpetrator of the bullying, made Chen's life even harder. Despite trying to stay strong and focus on her studies, Chen often couldn't hold back her despair. 

One day, when Chen was on her way home, she saw a young man being beaten up by three men. She immediately helped the young man by calling the local police. This incident formed a strong bond between Chen Nian and Xiao Bei.
