Taking on the romantic-comedy genre, the drama LOVE TO HATE YOU tells the story of the relationship between Nam Gang Ho (Teo Yoo) and Yeo Mi Ran (Kim Ok Vin) through their respective journeys. Both of them, who do not believe in love, are brought together by fate to form a contract.

Yeo Mi Ran is a lawyer at the Gilmu law firm, handling issues in the entertainment industry. She has an idealistic principle of not putting her attention on romantic relationships. This is not without reason. Yeo Mi Ran holds this principle because she has been disappointed by several men, whether they are colleagues, ex-boyfriends, or even her own father.

Her disappointment in any man has led her to develop her principle that women do not need to be protected by men. For her, she masters self-defense. Yeo Mi Ran also does not like feeling inferior to men. Until one day, he met a man named Nam Gang Ho. 

Nam Gang Ho, played by Teo Yoo, is a star with his acting in romance films or dramas. He is an actor who has a very good image and is admired as a handsome man who holds the throne of romance.

However, in reality, Nam Gang Ho has a childhood trauma that makes him not trust women. Especially when it comes to dating. Therefore, he is a person who is the opposite of his roles as a romantic actor.

The meeting of these two characters is their first fateful encounter. Yeo Mi Ran and Nam Gang Ho find themselves in a situation that requires them to make an agreement to become a contracted couple for three months. Nam Gang Ho has to maintain his image as an actor to convince his fans that he is experiencing the same romantic love story as his roles in films.

Slowly but surely, the contracted love between Yeo Mi Ran and Nam Gang Ho seems to bring forth the seeds of love. They, who previously both avoided the word "love", actually find it within their contracted relationship. However, their story also has its own twists and turns in this drama.

In addition to their relationship presented in the drama, LOVE TO HATE YOU also tells the love story between Do Woon Joon (Kim Ji Hoon), Nam Gang Ho's friend who contributes greatly to making Nam Gang Ho a famous actor, and his love story with Shin Na Eun (Go WonHee), Yeo Mi Ran's friend whose character is the opposite of the main character in the drama.
