Ahn Sungjae, the only Korean chef with a 'three Michelin star' title, appeared on the Newsroom program on JTBC on Sunday (20/10/2024) and shared interesting stories about his career and experiences. In the interview, Chef Ahn talked about his appearance on the Netflix show Culinary Class Wars as well as his views on cuisine.

On the show, Chef Ahn revealed that he was asked to lose weight before appearing on television. "I’m a bit chubby because I love to eat," he said with a laugh. “But I feel motivated to diet at the same time.”

He also showed his confidence as a professional chef. "If I review something, no one can protest," he said firmly. Chef Ahn feels he is capable of judging food fairly due to his diverse experience in the culinary world.

Chef Ahn also talked about his relationship with Baek Jong-won, another judge on the show. "We assess food in different ways," he said. "Even so, I think this actually makes our judgments fairer, as we see things from different perspectives."

Even though they have different standards, Chef Ahn acknowledges that he greatly respects Baek Jong-won. "He is a good and wise person," he revealed. “However, I will not change my opinion, even if we meet again in the future.”

When talking about the contestants on the show, Ahn was impressed with the unique ways some participants approached food. "There is a chef who changed my mindset about food," he said. He was surprised to see a Chinese chef serving a pasta dish with an incredible texture and taste.

Chef Ahn revealed that he has never had students. "I don't like to call them students," he explained. "But I always support those friends and am proud to see their progress."

During the event, Chef Ahn also touched on rumors that he intentionally wanted to defeat Chef Choi Hyun-seok in the 'Tofu Mission' challenge. "That's not true at all," he denied. “I just wanted to express mapo tofu in my own way.”

With the news of the second season of Culinary Class Wars production, Chef Ahn expressed his gratitude. However, he also humbled himself by saying, "There might be judges better than me. We need to discuss further before I agree."
