When talking about the beginning of a group's career, it feels incomplete not to mention the trainee period of its members. Behind TWICE's career journey, which is almost entering its sixth year, there is certainly a struggle of the members that started long before their debut.
Even Jihyo of TWICE has been a trainee for 10 years. She is the member who has been a trainee since 2005, the longest among the other members. Next, there are Nayeon and Jeongyeon who both started as trainees in 2010.
Sana, Chaeyoung, Dahyun, Momo, and Tzuyu are the members who trained at JYP since 2012. That means they trained for three years before their debut. And finally, there is Mina who started training in 2014. One year later, she successfully debuted with TWICE.
These nine talented and hardworking women have different backgrounds. They even come from three different countries, namely South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. In the end, TWICE can be called a destiny that unites them through a reality survival show 'SIXTEEN' which will be further discussed below.

As mentioned, the meeting of the members and the journey of TWICE's career seemed like a destiny that led them to success. Initially, JYP Entertainment, as one of the largest artist agencies in South Korea, planned to introduce a new girl group in 2014.
Unfortunately, this group never debuted until now, even though they had previously announced the names of the trainees who would become members. Then, in February 2015, Park Jin Young, the head of JYP, announced that the formation of the new girl group would be determined through the reality survival show 'SIXTEEN'.
The show, which was broadcasted by Mnet, had 16 participants who struggled to get the chance to debut. Finally, seven members were chosen, namely Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Jihyo, Sena, Mina, Dahyun, and Chaeyong. However, another surprising thing happened. JYP decided to add two more members, Tzuyu and Momo, who had previously been eliminated.
Tzuyu was chosen through viewer votes, the high points she received showed her popularity. And Momo was chosen for her dance and vocal abilities. That is the complete formation of TWICE, which is loved by Once until now.

As graduates of 'SIXTEEN', these nine talented girls made their debut in 2015. Their debut album, The Story Begins, with the hit song 'Like Ohh-Ahh', marked their first appearance. Of course, they received an enthusiastic response from fans.
At that time, their music video was even watched more than 50 million times within five months of their debut. This also surpassed the popularity of 2NE1's 'Fire' MV. Not only that, in the same year they received their first award from the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards as Best New Female Artist.
TWICE's career journey continued and various awards kept coming. In 2016, TWICE released a mini album titled Page Two, which included several songs, one of the most popular being 'Cheer Up'. Less than a month after its release, the song 'Cheer Up' won an award on M Countdown. After that, they won other music awards such as Music Bank and Inkigayo.
In August, it means the fourth month after its release, Page Two has sold more than 150,000 copies. This makes TWICE the first girl idol group to sell more than 100,000 copies in 2016.
The achievements and success of TWICE continue to increase. Until now, TWICE has won a total of 107 awards both in Korea and internationally, such as the Japan Gold Disc Award and MTV Europe Music Awards. In addition, they have also received a total of 61 awards from music programs such as Music Bank, Inkigayo, and others.

Their ninth mini album titled 'More and More' was released in June 2020 with the same titled lead song. The album became Twice's best-selling album as it sold over 550,000 copies on Gaon. Moreover, 'More and More' also reached the 200th position on the Billboard 200 music chart.
This also marked TWICE as the fourth female idol group from Korea to enter the chart after Girls' Generation, 2NE1, and Blackpink.
