A new band that is currently stealing attention, Gledeg, which consists of Wancoy (vocals), Patra Gumala (bass), Oza Rangkuti (drums), and Kicuy Aduy (guitar), has recently released their debut single titled “Mimpi Jadi Kiper”.
This song, which has light and humorous lyrics, is not only appealing to listeners but also brings Wancoy, its vocalist, back to the music world after years of absence from the band scene. Here are the details.
Wancoy, who was previously known as the vocalist of the punk band Social Distrust, is now back in the music scene after more than a decade away from it.
"Honestly, it has been a really long time since we last played in a band, the last time was many years ago. As for my voice, it's actually a bit different from the vocal character I had when I was in Social Distrust. Maybe it’s due to age, so my vocal range is just what it is now, as much as I can manage," said Wancoy to Kapanlagi.com.
Wancoy's decision to return to singing is not an easy one, considering his long journey in the music world. However, with a new spirit and support from his musician friends, Wancoy is ready to give his best in the music journey of Gledeg.
Not only about the voice, Wancoy also feels that his return to the music stage this time brings a new atmosphere for him, as well as a challenge to present his best work.
Although it is their first time releasing a single as a band, Gledeg shows that they work very quickly. Patra Gumala, who serves as the bassist, revealed that the process of creating the song "Mimpi Jadi Kiper" was done in a very short time. "We made these six songs in just one shift. So from 1 PM, we started in the studio, and by 6 or 7 PM, we were done. Just that fast," said Patra.
This very efficient song-making process proves how solid the collaboration is among the Gledeg personnel, each of whom has long experience in the music world. However, even though the recording process was quick, Wancoy explained that the mixing and mastering stages took a little longer. "For mixing and mastering, it takes about two weeks," he said.
The first single, "Mimpi Jadi Kiper" (Dream of Becoming a Goalkeeper), is a perfect choice to introduce this band to the public. With light, funny lyrics and an energetic musical vibe, this song immediately touches the hearts of listeners. "Why is the song 'Mimpi Jadi Kiper' (Dream of Becoming a Goalkeeper) titled like that? It seems the funniest. At first, it was just for fun, but it leaked because Wancoy talked about it in Grindboys. So, we decided to make it the first single," Patra explained.
