no na was born from the grand vision of 88rising, a global entertainment and record label founded by Sean Miyashiro and Jaeson Ma in 2015. The label previously succeeded in launching Asian names like Rich Brian, NIKI, Joji, and Stephanie Poetri.
Of course, no na didn't just appear out of nowhere. Here are the people behind the scenes of no na!
The recruitment of the four members of no na (Baila, Shaz, Christy, and Esther) began secretly by the A&R team of 88rising during their first Head in the Clouds Festival in Jakarta in December 2022. Initially, the recruiter did not reveal that they represented 88rising, but instead offered an opportunity to join a global girl group before the label's identity was disclosed.
88rising is a record label and multimedia company founded in 2015 by Sean Miyashiro and Jaeson Ma.
For its music production, the debut single titled 'Shoot' was produced in collaboration with The Stereotypes, an American hit-making producer team that incorporated elements of traditional gamelan and contemporary trap. The Stereotypes are also behind the success of Bruno Mars' songs 'That's What I Like' and '24K Magic' as well as Justin Bieber's 'Somebody to Love'.
Stephanie Poetri, although not contributing vocals, was directly involved as one of the songwriters for no na's first song, 'Superstitious'.
The choreography for no na was entrusted to Sienne (Sienna Lalau), an international choreographer who has worked on choreography for BTS (Dionysus, ON, Black Swan) and BLACKPINK (How You Like That).
One of the creators of the song 'Falling in Love', Leven Kali previously also created songs for Beyonce such as Virgo's Groove and Plastic Off The Sofa.
Tyler Acord aka Lophiile is one of the creators of Superstitious. He was also involved in the creation of H.E.R's song 'Avenue'.
