Afgan Releases New English Album Titled 'SONDER'

Kapanlagi.com - After SHALLOW WATER, Afgansyah Reza has released his latest album titled SONDER. In this album, one of the songs titled Escape is a duet between Afgan and South Korean rapper, Jessi.

SONDER is Afgan's most personal work, and the meaning of the title reflects the feeling or awareness of everyone we meet in life. The word Sonder was actually found through Pinterest, and this word resonates deeply in the mind of the singer of Panah Asmara.

"The word Sonder which I found through Pinterest, echoes in my mind. Everyone has their own perspective and life story, ranging from the simple to the complex," said Afgan in a written statement on Tuesday (23/7).

"Each of them is experiencing something in their lives, and we must have compassion for others. That’s what made me choose Sonder as the title of the album," he continued.

1. Working with Producers in England

For this album, Afgan flew to England and collaborated with several renowned songwriters and producers there, one of whom is Maestro, the producer of the single What Now by Rihanna. He even stayed for two weeks, resulting in five songs for SONDER.

Starting from emotional ballads like Shallow Water, Lonely Night, to Escape. The Vietnamese-American R&B singer, thủy, also features in the song Criminal.

"I have come this far, grown a lot, and experienced many things. In the past, I didn’t have the right to determine what I wanted from my music. I was controlled by the market and people's expectations. I lacked the confidence to speak up. However, as the years went by, I became bolder in exploring my music and more open about myself so that people could get to know me better," he said.

2. Want to Brave to Open Up

Through the album SONDER, Afgan is becoming braver in opening up, he also wants to change his image as nation's darling to strengthen his relationship with his fans.

"I don't want to fit into a box and stay there forever just because it's comfortable. I want to grow and that is the direction I want to take in my work. I want to be more honest in making music and SONDER represents my feelings about that. It is indeed scary, stepping out of my comfort zone and working in a new environment, but I want it," he concluded.
