Kehlani Releases Single 'Next 2 U', Openly Supports Palestine in Latest Music Video

Among the many Hollywood artists who choose to remain silent, Kehlani is at the forefront in supporting Palestine. It is known that Kehlani is very vocal in advocating for Palestinian independence. Since 2023, she has never failed to share various posts related to Israeli genocide. She has even gone to the streets to protest.

Now, the R&B musician takes a bolder step by openly supporting Palestine through a song. Titled 'Next 2 U', the single released on Friday (31/5/2024) is part of Kehlani's upcoming album that will be announced soon.

Through the song 'Next 2 U', Kehlani proves that music can be a medium to convey social messages. She embeds various messages and support for the oppressed. The musician doesn't hesitate to wear a keffiyeh and dance in front of the Palestinian flag.

1. Embed Many Support Messages

Kehlani opens the music video Next 2 U with an anti-war quote from Palestinian poet, Hala Alyan. The quote reads: "Guard your moon / We have our own / Guard your troops / We have our name / Keep your flag / We have fruit and inside it / All the right colors."

Together with background dancers, Kehlani then appears dressed in a keffiyeh and dances in front of the Palestinian flag. At the end, Kehlani writes a message of tribute to the Palestinian children who have become victims of genocide.

"We made a scroll to honor the names of thousands of children who died. The list is so long that even at the fastest scroll duration of 3 minutes, you can't read them all," as written at the end of the music video Next 2 U.

2. Involving Palestinian Citizens

Not only conveying a message of struggle, Kehlani also involved Palestinians in the music video Next 2 U. Kehlani revealed this on her personal Instagram account. She thanked her colleague for helping recruit Palestinians

"Thank you @sallysujinoh, my creative partner for recruiting Palestinians on set and ensuring everyone on set feels safe," Kehlani wrote on her personal Instagram account, Saturday (1/6/2024).

Along with the release of the single Next 2 U, Kehlani also launched a merchandise. Still themed Next 2 U, this merchandise is a white shirt with an image of the Palestinian struggle. The merchandise is actually designed and produced in Palestine.

Kehlani revealed that the proceeds from the sale of the merchandise will be donated to help Palestine. "Get the merch because 100% of the proceeds will be channeled to families in Congo Sudan & Palestine," reads the caption on Instagram.
