Appreciating Indonesia's Talented Pianists, Here Are the Young Pianists Who Won at the Jakarta Youth Piano Competition 2024

Kapanlagi.com - The Jakarta Youth Piano Competition (JYPC) held at the ACS Jakarta Auditorium on August 31, 2024, became a platform to showcase the talents of young Indonesian pianists. Several names such as Cathleen Scarlett Hayasi, Lennart Joshua Sugih, Callista Kertalesmana, and Samuel Wilbert Siregar achieved remarkable success in this competition. They secured top positions in various categories.

Cathleen Scarlett Hayasi emerged as the Champion of Category A, while Lennart Joshua Sugih won 2nd place in the same category. In Category B, Callista Kertalesmana was crowned Champion, and Samuel Wilbert Siregar managed to become 2nd place in Category C.

The competition, organized by Bina Musik Jakarta and ACS Jakarta, was under the direction of Artistic Director Adelaide Simbolon. JYPC aims to appreciate and provide a platform for the talents of young pianists in Indonesia, focusing on classical music. This event also aims to provide a broader musical experience for the participants.

"In addition to certainly adding to the musical experience and performance, we will also select some winners to perform at the Bulgarian and Swiss Embassies," said Isabela Anjani, Project Manager of the Jakarta Youth Piano Competition at Bina Musik Jakarta, Central Jakarta, Saturday (14/9/2024).

1. Prize and Scholarship Recipient

It was also added that the winners will not only take home prizes and trophies but will also have the opportunity to receive free music education scholarships at Bina Musik Jakarta.

"Another benefit besides the prizes and trophies that we have prepared is what comes next for these children, one of which is a free music education scholarship at Bina Musik Jakarta, and later at the end of the year on December 8, they will perform with the Piano Division of Bina Musik Jakarta at Usmar Ismail," explained Isabela.

The competition, which is divided into four categories based on age, involves participants from all over Indonesia. Category A is for children aged 6 to 9 years, Category B for ages 10 to 12 years, Category C for ages 13 to 15 years, and Category D for ages 16 to 18 years.

2. Love Classical Music

One participant, Samuel Wilbert Siregar, who is the 2nd Place winner in Category C, admitted that he loves classical music very much. However, he also expressed the challenge of managing practice time amidst his busy schedule as a high school student.

"I sometimes find it difficult to find time to practice piano because I am already in high school. Discipline is important, even though I love piano, I still have to be disciplined," said Samuel.

The preliminary round of this competition was held online from June 5 to July 24, 2024. From hundreds of participants, 74 finalists were selected to compete in the final round. The finalists were judged by experienced jurors in the music world, including Amelia Santoso, Iswargia R. Sudarno, Randy Ryan, Esti Utami Prabowo, Daniel Adipradhana, and Sangkala Turangga Seta.

This event not only provides space for young pianists to develop but also offers opportunities to perform at various prestigious events. At the end of the year, specifically on December 8, 2024, the winners will perform with the Piano Division of Bina Musik Jakarta at Usmar Ismail Hall, Jakarta.
