Diogo Jota Passes Away in a Fatal Accident, Liverpool Supporters Sing This Touching Chant for the Legend

Sad news comes from the world of football. Diogo Jota, Liverpool striker and Portugal national team player, passed away in a tragic accident on Wednesday, July 3, 2025. The accident occurred in Zamora, Spain, while Jota was driving with his brother, Andre Silva.

They were in a Lamborghini that unfortunately experienced a tire blowout while overtaking. The car went off the road and caught fire. Unfortunately, neither Jota nor his brother could be saved and died at the scene.

What makes it even more heartbreaking is that Jota had just married his girlfriend, Rute Cardoso, 11 days earlier. They had been blessed with three children. The life of this small family seemed to be at the peak of happiness before this tragedy struck so suddenly.

As a form of tribute, Liverpool supporters sang the chant they usually sing when Jota is on the field. The lyrics are spine-chilling.

"Oh, he wears the number 20. He will take us to victory. And when he’s running down the left wing. He'll cut inside and score for LFC. He's a lad from Portugal. Better than Figo don’t you know. Oh, his name is Diogo! (Oh, he wears the number 20. He will take us to victory. And when he’s running down the left wing. He'll cut inside and score for LFC. He's a lad from Portugal. Better than Figo, don’t you know? Oh, his name is Diogo!)"

This song has become a symbol of how much Jota is loved by The Reds fans. The chant is an adaptation of a song from the Argentine club supporter, River Plate, modified by Liverpool fans to describe Jota's fast, sharp, and spirited playing style.

There is even a lyric that claims he is "better than Figo," a proud joke from fans for their idol who hails from Portugal.
