Posan, Pare & Icez Furious About Kotak Name Registered Without Permission:

The conflict over the band name Kotak continues to unfold. This time, three former members, Posan Tobing, Pare, and Icez, have firmly voiced their objections to the confirmation of the Kotak name, which they claim was done without their permission as the original founders.

This issue began when the name Kotak was registered with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (HAKI) by the current band formation, namely Cella, Tantri, and Chua. This triggered anger from Posan and his colleagues because they felt sidelined.

"So, for Cella (the guitarist and former member), just ask your own little heart, okay? Cella who is there and still alive, right? still alive, so should know how the history goes," said Posan Tobing when met in the Kuningan area, South Jakarta, Wednesday (21/5/2025).

Posan emphasized that neither he, Pare, nor Icez were ever informed about the registration of that name, even though they were part of the founding members of Kotak when they participated in the Dream Band event in 2004.

"So don't, 'we are KOTAK' like that. Meanwhile, the founders or the original founders of KOTAK are me, Pare, and also Icez, who did not know beforehand why that name suddenly appeared in HAKI, and was already registered," stressed Posan.

Pare, the former vocalist, also expressed disappointment because he feels he directly coined the name Kotak when this band was formed.

"So, if the history is 2004, elementary school, we participated in a dream band, there were 8 bands... And I happened to mention KOTAK, there was already a concept, image, logo, philosophy, and it wasn't random," explained Pare.

This issue has been taken to the legal route since November 15, 2024. However, their lawsuit was rejected by the Sleman District Court and upheld by the Yogyakarta High Court.

Not giving up, they now agree to bring this case to the Supreme Court in the form of cassation. They hope to achieve justice and recognition as the founders of the band Kotak.
