Starting From the Habit of Writing in a Diary, Carissa Putridianty Launches Debut Single 'Drive'

Kapanlagi.com - Before social media was as popular as it is now, you used to pour out your heart in a diary, right? Although writing in a diary is now considered 'old-fashioned', there are still some people who do it, like Carissa Putridianty.

Since she was little, Carissa has been used to writing in a diary, especially about her personal life. From that habit, the girl born in Hong Kong on December 28, 1999, got an inspiration to create a song.

Yes, Carissa recently introduced her debut single titled Drive. The lyrics in the song were taken from Carissa's heartfelt scribbles in her diary.

"Drive tells the story of someone who can no longer maintain a relationship with their lover. But they can't move on yet. They really love their lover but it's hard to find a new life," said Carissa to the media recently.

The title of Carissa's chosen Drive actually has many meanings. However, the graduate of ESMOD Fashion School Jakarta explained that the meaning of the word Drive here is driving. What's the reason?

"Because I really wanted to go driving alone. Later in the music video, I will depict it that way," said Carissa while laughing.

Single Drive is a big step in Carissa's career in the music world. Amazingly, all the lyrics, arrangements, and instruments were done by Carissa herself.

2. Challenges Faced

Carissa is known to be quite skilled at playing the guitar. Armed with her guitar, Carissa began recording the song. She did everything at home while filling her free time during the pandemic. However, because she did not have enough experience in arranging music, Carissa admitted that she was initially not confident.

"At first, I just wanted it to be acoustic. Because I'm not good at making beats. I'm a newbie. When my family listened to it, they said it was already good," Carissa recalled.

Carissa felt embarrassed to ask for help from others to work on her debut single. With a daring attitude, she tried to perfect it herself. But the process was not without challenges. Especially during the vocal recording.

"The mic was faulty. So, in the end, I asked to borrow a studio from a friend's father. So, it was mastered again," Carissa revealed.

3. Artistic Talent From the Family

Carissa's musical talent has been evident since she was a child. It is understandable, as her mother is a dancer. That is why Carissa's artistic spirit has been implanted since she was young. Little Carissa also likes to collect toy microphones. And talent search events are her favorite TV shows.

"When my family has gatherings, I am often asked to sing, even though my voice is not that good. From there, I was sent to a dance school where there was a musical. So, I got carried away," said Carissa.

Not only does Carissa show interest in music, but she also enjoys writing. And her diary is the victim of her hobby. When she was little, Carissa was known for her terrible handwriting. But it was from there that her hobby of writing a diary emerged.

"My dad often said, 'Let's push her to write,' and that's how I started writing a diary. And the initial idea for making a song also came from there," said Carissa.

4. Starting to Believe in Herself

It took some time for Carissa to finally muster the courage to turn some of her writing into a song. Although both of her parents continued to support her, Carissa still felt unconfident.

But now her self-confidence has grown. Carissa feels that music has become her passion that she must pursue. Although she is currently focused on her profession as a designer, Carissa also wants music to be a part of her life.

"Because both have become my job. I want both to work. If possible, I can perform while wearing my own design clothes," Carissa said with a smile.
