'Surrender', Last Child's New Work that Becomes One of the Soundtracks of the Short Film 'Me and the Time Machine'

In 2021, dr.m created a short film project titled Me and the Time Machine. The film is inspired by several songs by Indonesian musicians. Starting from Budi Doremi, Caitlin Halderman, Virgoun, and of course Last Child.

"In my opinion, there has never been a project like this in Indonesia. Usually, I only have my solo projects, but not this time. There's me as a soloist, there's my band, Budi (Doremi), and also Caitlin (Halderman). So when dr.m was brainstorming the idea last year, I was really excited. Let's do it. It's going to be fun and exciting, hahaha!" said Virgoun.

1. Developed Since October 2020

This project is much more interesting because it has challenges with complex levels. The storyline of the short movie and the songs from the four musicians must complement each other, completing something inseparable. The creative process has started since October 2020.

Each musician was given the challenge to create new works that depict the feelings of each episode. Through a series of workshops and songwriters camp in Bandung, not only 4 but 7 new works were born. 4 songs became the main soundtrack and the other 3 became supporting songs.

Refal Hady, Fero Walandouw, and Caitlin Halderman will compete in acting as Rama, Bara, and Sukma, who are key characters in the short film Aku dan Mesin Waktu (Me and the Time Machine).

2. Last Child's Hope

With straightforward lyrics and powerful music, Last Child's members hope that this new work can help people express their emotions and become stronger in facing a failed relationship.

"Indeed, fighting for something is important. But there is a limit to fighting, and sometimes surrendering is a better choice than hating. Surrendering doesn't mean losing. Everyone has the right to their own happiness," said Dimas.

"Well, the meaning of this song will be clearly depicted in the short movie Aku Dan Mesin Waktu. Caitilin, Refal, and Fero can visualize the emotions of our song very well. And God willing, everyone who watches it will like it, it will trend, and it will continue to be watched for years to come. The key is success. Amen YRA!" concluded Virgoun, agreed by Dimas and Ipank.
