Under the Same Label as Ariel NOAH, Difki Khalif Ready to Bring a New Color to the Music Industry of the Homeland

He said it was indeed very difficult to enter the recording industry because his music style was considered similar to Peterpan or NOAH.

In a virtual press conference with Musica Studios on Wednesday (3/3), Difki Khalif emphasized that his joining the label was not solely because of his closeness to Ariel. Instead, he mentioned that the singer of Menghapus Jejakmu had a strict educational approach.

1. Already 6 Years Waiting

"Back then, my music style was too similar to NOAH and that was the main reason Musica rejected me. Finally, in 2018, I received a call from A&R Musica, after waiting for about 6 years," said Difki Khalif.

"It's not just because Boril is my brother (cousin) and I was accepted right away, it's not that easy for him to get his sibling into Musica either. In fact, he mostly trained him," he continued.

2. Initially Rejected

Difki remembers the event 6 years ago when he first gave his music demo, only to be rejected outright by Ariel. Nevertheless, he was given hope and a challenge to enter the label with the condition that his music style must be different from NOAH.

"At first, I gave a song to Ariel, and it was rejected. He said I needed to practice first. I also waited for Bu Acin (Executive Producer of Musica). She (Bu Acin) said we could process you, but the condition is that you have to create a music style different from your brother. So, in 2018, I spent a year meditating in the studio, exploring my identity and music style, until finally, alhamdulillah, I got signed," he said.

3. Illusion After You Leave

After being accepted by the same label as Ariel, Difki admitted that his waiting and longing finally paid off, now he just released his own single titled Illusion After You Leave. The song was created based on his personal experience, when his beloved sent a wedding invitation to someone else a week before his birthday.

All the shock and denial were poured into Difki's lyrics. Because, he thought it was just a prank before his birthday.

"In this song, I tell how it feels to receive a wedding invitation and there is an illusion playing. Because it happened 1 week before my birthday in February. I thought she came just to give a normal surprise, 'surely when my birthday comes, she will come with a cake and say happy birthday, my dear'. But it was all just an illusion in my head whispering while I was shocked for 5 minutes (after receiving the invitation)," he concluded.
