7 Important Characters Eliminated in 'ONE PIECE' Live Action Season 1

ONE PIECE live-action is one of the successful anime adaptation series that has received much praise from viewers. Just a few days after its release, ONE PIECE live-action immediately topped the list of TV programs on the streaming platform Netflix, achieving a certified fresh rating of 83% on the tomatometer and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as an 8.6/10 rating on IMDb. These percentages are a significant achievement for an adaptation taken from a popular anime.

Adaptation works often have to consider realistic aspects in their production. Although Luffy's adventure in East Blue develops similarly to the anime and manga, some modifications have been made to enhance the story's suitability for live-action format. As a result, some characters have been eliminated in the live-action version. While some of them are not important, other characters play a crucial role in the future development of the story.

1. Jango

In the Arc Syrup Village ONE PIECE, Jango is an important character who plays a crucial role. He serves as the right-hand man of Captain Kuro in both the anime and manga. When Kuro is absent, Jango takes over as the leader of the Black Cat Pirates and leads the invasion of Syrup Village during that Arc.

Furthermore, Jango is given the important task of hypnotizing Kaya, eventually convincing her to write her will. Unfortunately, Jango does not appear in the Netflix adaptation of ONE PIECE live-action, which results in a different direction for the events in the Syrup Village Arc.

2. Mohji

The first mate of the Buggy Pirates, Mohji is omitted in the ONE PIECE live-action. He is an animal tamer who uses a whip as his weapon in battles. Mohji is an antagonist that Luffy and his crew encounter in the Orange Town Arc.

Mohji has a strong bond with his pet lion, Richie, and treats the animal with love and care, even more special than others. He even admires Richie specifically and gets angry when Richie is used as a shield by Cabaji to protect himself from Luffy's attacks. Although he claims to have the ability to communicate with animals, he has only been shown to be able to tame his own pets, like Richie, and has never demonstrated his ability on other animals in the story.

3. Gaimon

Gaimon, a unique character who appears after the Orange Town Arc. The Straw Hat Pirates meet him on Rare Animal Island, where he has been stranded for 20 years. Gaimon is willing to spend his life on that remote island to protect the treasure, which turns out to be empty. However, because he has been living on the island with the animals for a long time, he changes his mission to take care of the animals on the island.

Although Gaimon does not appear in the live-action adaptation of ONE PIECE, his role is not very important in the overall adventure story in East Blue. However, he is depicted in Baratie through a painting depicting Rare Animal Island.

4. Hachi

Hachi, a Fishman with octopus abilities, is part of the Arlong crew. Although considered less threatening compared to other members, Hachi eventually gets involved in a battle with Zoro during the events at Arlong Park. However, in the live-action adaptation ONE PIECE, the character Hachi is not included.

At the end of the Arlong Park Arc, Hachi provides assistance to the Straw Hat crew in fighting against Arlong and helps Nami free their village from the oppression of the group. In addition, he reveals his determination to change his life and try to fix his mistakes. After the Arlong Park Arc, Hachi becomes a better character and actively supports the Straw Hat crew in their adventure. Hachi assists the Straw Hat crew in fighting against Arlong at the end of the Arlong Park Arc, helps Nami free their village, and expresses his desire for change. After that, he supports the Straw Hat crew in their adventure and becomes a better character.

5. Yosaku

Yosaku is a pirate hunter who is always with his friend Johnny. Many anime or manga fans enjoy their friendship in the East Blue Saga. He knew Zoro before Zoro met Luffy.

Yosaku met the Straw Hat Pirates at the same time as Johnny, and together they went to Baratie. After that, he joined the crew towards Arlong Park, where he played a somewhat important role. Yosaku is also absent in the live-action series, but his presence is not missed much, considering that he is not a character with significant influence in the story.

6. Johnny

Johnny is a character beloved by fans, both in the anime and manga ONE PIECE, during the East Blue Saga. He is a pirate hunter who knew Zoro before he even met Luffy. Zoro has a very strong bond with him and eventually reunites with Johnny shortly before the events of Baratie.

Actually, Johnny and his friend were the ones who brought the crew to Baratie initially. Johnny plays a somewhat important role in that Arc and joins the crew until Arlong Park. In the ONE PIECE live-action series on Netflix, Johnny is not seen at all.

7. Chouchou

Although just a dog, Chouchou's story is enough to touch the hearts of fans. Chouchou is a loyal, big dog who guards his deceased owner's peanut shop.

When Orange Town was attacked by the pirate Buggy, the shop that Chouchou guarded was destroyed. Despite the shop and the whole town being in ruins, Chouchou remains faithful in guarding the remnants of his peanut shop.
